The following is a list of some of the most important dates in Police history.
1940s
- 1942-12-31: Andy Summers is born.
- 1944-05-04: Miles Copeland III is born.
- 1949-04-25: Ian Copeland is born.
1950s
- 1951-10-02: Sting is born.
- 1952-07-16: Stewart Copeland is born.
- 1952-10-13: Henry Padovani is born.
1960s

1970s
- 1976-09-25: Phil Sutcliffe takes Stewart Copeland to see Last Exit at St. Mary's College in Newcastle, where he introduces Stewart Copeland and Sting. Stewart gives Sting his phone number.
- 1977-01-23: The first-ever Police photo-session takes place on the rooftop of Stewart Copeland's Mayfair squat.
- 1977-02-12: The Police's first single, "Fall Out", is recorded at Pathway Studios.
- 1977-08-05: The Police performed at Arènes de Mont-de-Marsan in Mont-de-Marsan, France. This was the second and last time that The Police played a complete concert with both Andy Summers and Henry Padovani.
- 1978-11-17: Outlandos d'Amour, the first Police album, is released.
- 1979-10-02: Reggatta de Blanc is released.

1980s
- 1980-10-03: Zenyatta Mondatta is released.
- 1981-10-02: Ghost In The Machine is released.
- 1983-06-01: Synchronicity is released.
- 1983-08-18: The Police performed at Shea Stadium in New York. By most popular accounts, it was while playing at Shea Stadium that Sting decided to stop playing with The Police, because this overwhelming event was as far as he felt the band could possibly go.
- 1984-03-04: The Police performed the last show in their 1983-1984 Synchronicity Tour in Melbourne, Australia. It would be their last performance together as a band until reuniting briefly for the Conspiracy of Hope shows in 1986.
- 1985-06-01: Sting's first solo album, The Dream Of The Blue Turtles is released.
- 1986-06-11: The Police performed at the The Omni in Atlanta, GA, USA. It was the fourth show of Amnesty International's "A Conspiracy of Hope" tour and the first of three played on the tour by The Police. The other two shows featuring the band were 1986-06-13 in Chicago, IL; and the final show on 1986-06-15 at Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ.
- 1989-10-10: Stewart Copeland's opera, "Holy Blood and Crescent Moon", premieres at the State Theatre in Cleveland, OH.

1990s
- 1992-08-22: Sting and Trudie Styler celebrate their marriage at Lake House. The Troggs were hired to play music on that day. Stewart Copeland and Andy Summers eventually teamed up with Sting again (using the Troggs' gear) to play "Roxanne" and "Message In A Bottle", their first "performance" together since 1986.

2000s
- 2000-05-04: Oysterhead - Stewart Copeland's "supergroup" with Les Claypool and Trey Anastasio - first performs at the Saenger Theatre in New Orleans, LA, USA.
- 2003-03-10: The Police performed three songs at their induction into the Rock and Roll "Hall Of Fame" at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York, NY, USA.
- 2004-12-12: Stewart Copeland and Andy Summers performed with Incubus at the Universal Amphitheatre in Universal City, CA, USA.
- 2006-01-21: Stewart Copeland and Andy Summers are present when an early cut of Stewart's movie Everyone Stares: The Police Inside Out is screened at the Sundance Film Festival. After the screening they meet Sting in nearby Tao restaurant (a Chef Dance event), and the three are photographed together.
- 2006-05-23: Ian Copeland passes away from melanoma at 57.
- 2007-02-11: The Police perform "Roxanne" live at the Grammy Awards, their first public performance together since their induction into the Hall of Fame in 2003.
- 2007-02-12: The Police hold a press conference and performed live at the Whisky a Go Go in Los Angeles, CA, USA, announcing that they would be going on tour.
- 2007-05-27: The first full gig of the 2007-2008 Reunion Tour takes place at General Motors Place in Vancouver, BC, Canada.
- 2007-05-31: Stewart Copeland posts his infamous "OUR FIRST DISASTER GIG!" blog at stewartcopeland.net.[1] The humorous critique of the band's last of three shows in Vancouver spreads like wildfire through the press and receives over 200,000 "hits" on the website by early 2010.
- 2008-08-07: The last performance of the 2007-2008 Reunion Tour takes place at Madison Square Garden in New York City, New York.
