"The Maniacs came on just before [[The Police]] as the hot sun was going down and the light was beginning to fade. I remember our performance went down very well with the audience. We had just got Henri Paul in the band as a second guitarist who was something of an up and coming star in French rock, at that time. We did our version of “Kick out the Jams” by the MC5, which seemed to go down well with the French. Unfortunately we had trouble with the bass amp that broke down. We were using 50-watt Hiwatt hired amps. Still, we did a good show. The French bands on the bill were pretty cool. I think Henri Paul knew more of them personally of course. Bijou was the most commercially popular at time but not a hardcore Punk Rock band.  Little Bob Story was a really good garage rock band. I did know Little Bob, as he was a fan of the Rings, we were lucky enough to support his band at the 100 club in London a few months before. I also knew the French guitarist [[Henry Padovani]] well who was in [[The Police]] and on the coach with us at the time."

Trivia

This was the second and last time that The Police played a complete concert with both Andy Summers and Henry Padovani. They were one of many UK punk bands at Mont-de-Marsan's punk festival. Other bands who played at this festival were more famous then: The Clash, The Damned, The Jam (cancelled their performance) ...

The Police received 200 UK pounds for this gig. They played at 09:30pm in front of about 3000 people.

Alan Lee Shaw from The Maniacs remembered this day on Unplugged2, a French online punk fanzine (used with the author's permission):

"The Maniacs came on just before The Police as the hot sun was going down and the light was beginning to fade. I remember our performance went down very well with the audience.
