Trivia
Previous information by the late Nigel Gray was that Sting recorded foreign versions of De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da at Miami's Criteria Studios in the morning and that The Police flew to Buenos Aires later.
Recent information suggests that the band spent more time in Miami and that work at Criteria Studios already started around 1980-12-10. Nonetheless the band flew to Buenos Aires today.
Today's concert in Argentina is the only one that happened on the day it was originally scheduled to take place on. The other gigs were re-scheduled. It was said that Sting was ill the week before, so The Police wanted to cancel all their South American dates. As Andy Summers told Pelo magazine it was in fact Stewart Copeland who was ill. Promoter Daniel Grinbank and Dardo Ferrari (who flew over to Miami) convinced Miles and the band to reschedule the concerts and come to Argentina anyway. As this was a last minute decision and equipment had to be moved to Argentina they re-scheduled the Obras show and the Mar del Plata show.
Newspapers announced today's concert for 9:30pm.
The Police were interviewed for 1981-01 Pelo at the venue. They stayed at the Sheraton Hotel.
The venue had been opened the week before, today's audience of about 800 people (among them Gustavo Cerati) mostly were invited VIPs who didn't actually know the band. There were about 50 interested fans at the front of the stage, the rest of the audience didn't treat The Police politely so that it may actually have been cut short by the band.
