About the song
The original German song title is "Die Moritat von Mackie Messer". The English version sung by Sting was translated by Ralph Manheim and John Willett in 1976.
The LP credits mention that the song was recorded at the Théâtre Mogador with additional recording (probably for the supporting musicians only) at various studios in Paris and London.
In a 1985 interview in New Orleans Sting also mentions that the song was performed on stage of the venue being recorded in a mobile studio outside. Recording engineer Pete Smith added that they used the Dierks mobile studio.
