Introduction

Steinberger started to produced their headless basses in 1980. On 1982-01-18 Sting tried out Andy's bass - first at the soundcheck and then for the actual concert. Andy Summers still owns this bass that still features the Steinberger logo.

According to the Steinberger website Sting's own black L2 model with the serial # 430 was manufactured in 9/82 and sent to him shortly after directly from the factory ("allegedly owned by Sting").

BUT: between the 1982-07-04 and 1982-07-21 concerts the Steinberger bass that Sting played "changed". On 1982-07-04 (and probably on 1982-07-12, too) he still used Andy's bass with the Steinberger logo. Photos from 1982-04-21 onwards show him with a bass without that logo.

The Steinberger bass was also used to record the Synchronicity album.

During the 1983-1984 Synchronicity Tour Danny Quatrochi played it on Invisible Sun, while Sting only used it occasionally.

Andy also owns that bass, while Stewart has got a similar guitar at the Sacred Grove.
