Biography

Born in 1955 in Frankfurt/Main, Detlef Kinsler was a singer in various regional bands like "Frendz" and "Nurse" during and after high school. Through this activity and regular concert visits since the age of 15 he got contacts to national and international musicians, concert promoters, magazines and newspapers.

He studied German, English, theater, film and television, graduating with a master's degree with the thesis „The Literary Claim in Texts of Contemporary German Rock Music" using the example of Berlin based band "Element of Crime".

From 1973 onwards he wrote the regular column „Szene Frankfurt“ in daily newspaper "Frankfurter Rundschau" - about the local music scene. He reviewed concerts and did interviews for a lot of other regional publications.

After a brief interlude at the legendary German "Sounds" magazine he started many years of collaboration with "Musik Express", but also for "Fachblatt", "JAM" and other trade magazines.

Today Detlef is the music editor at Germany’s most important city magazine". Continuous observation of the regional scene and close ties to many musicians. Co-author of the encyclopedia classic „Rock in Deutschland" (Tuarus Press) Author of the German music edition of the parlor game Trivial Pursuit Author of the biography Element of Crime in the series Musik Makers (Hannibal Verlag) Parallel to this, on behalf of the label Motor Music and the band Element of Crime Compilation of the songs for the two EoC anthologies „1985-1990" (the English phase) and „1991-1996" (the German-language songs) Text and picture contributions in „Rock Session No. 4“ (Rowohlt) about Die Straßenjungs, „Rockzitate“ (Sphinx).

Until the end and the (under massive protest of the loyal listeners and fans) discontinuation of the program contributor to „hr1 SchwarzWeiss“ at radio station Hessischer Rundfunk as editor, author and program compiler.
