Trivia
Sting was scheduled to perform at the Newcastle Arena in Newcastle, England, UK. This show was cancelled.
On that day the Variety Club of Great Britain honoured Sting at the Civic Centre. The tribute lunch started at 01:00pm. The guest list included Sting's family and Newcastle friends (like Gordon Solomon, Gerry Richardson, John Hedley, Andy Hudson and Paul Elliot, Jim Berryman), Mark Knopfler, Jimmy Nail, Bobby Robson, Alan Shearer, Rob Andrew, Peter Beardsley, Jackie Charlton Glenn McRory, and Jonathan Edwards.
After speeches from Jools Holland, Mark Knopfler, Jimmy Nail and Sting a few songs were performed with Sting playing bass.
Two students from Newcastle College (Hannah Taylor and Andrew Mockler) sang versions of Walking On The Moon, If I Ever Lose My Faith In You, Every Breath You Take and All This Time accompanied by Sting and Gerry Richardson's band.
After lunch a charity auction was held, before Sting was presented with the Variety Club's highest accolade, 'The Silver Heart'. Sting and Trudie Styler then walked to the scene of his first paid gig - the Newcastle Playhouse - which he formally renamed as the Northern Stage.
