9th Avenue (Put On Your Wings And Fly) is a song written by Tony Hoyos and recorded by Last Exit in 1975.

About the song

After his father bought a record during a holiday in the Caribbean, producer David Wood asked Last Exit to record it. Indeed Dave paid them a session fee for the performing the track, but sadly it has never been released. The song was recorded on 1975-09-15 or soon afterwards.

Reviewing the reel-to-reel notes on the Ted Owens auction image, the reel was initially used with a band referenced with the name "Be a Singer," it would seem, despite nothing being released on Wudwink under that band name. Although possible, it seems unlikely that Last Exit would have recorded on that same reel on the very same day, although it's possible... so the date is inconclusive. The guitarist is also inconclusive, since Hedley was there through October 29, 1975. Ellis appears to have already been in studio for Whispering Voices just 20 days later... There appears to have been 11 total tracks mixed down to stereo in order to make this track:

1) 1st drum mic 2) 2nd drum mic 3) Acoustic guitar 4) Electric guitar 5) Electric Piano 6) Bass 7) Vocals 1 8 ) Vocals 2 9) Sax 1 10) Sax 2 11) Sax 3

Assembly on this 8 track tape of 11 tracks required the two vocals to be recorded and mixed on a separate reel, then transferred into a single channel. Plus, the saxes were recorded later against a stereo mix of the backing track.

This is a song that David Wood of Impulse Sound Recording Studio commissioned for the band to record as a work for hire.
