The Police may have been preparing for the upcoming concerts at Wisseloord Studios in Hilversum, The Netherlands. It's also possible that there were already travelling to Milton Keynes today - they did the soundcheck on 1980-07-25, a day before the actual concert.

A concert at Amsterdam's Paradiso was planned for today, but cancelled.

As Dutch magazine Hitkrant explains it should have been a surprise concert anyway, but there were health problems and technical problems with the new equipment. When The Police heard that the surprise gig had already been advertised they cancelled the gig.
