The Police try to record a new b-side at Surrey Sound Studios in Leatherhead, England, UK.
They intended to spend several days in the studio, but today was probably the only day that they recorded something. Two multitrack session tapes feature various songs and studio talk.
- Truth Hits Everybody - The Police tried to record a slow version in three takes which would later be combined to
- Instrumental #1 - the band did two takes of this instrumental with Sting on keyboards
- Instrumental #2 - one take - about 6 minutes long
- Instrumental #3 - one take
- Instrumental #4 - one take
The studio talk and additional information by A&M personnel suggest that today was The Police's only session for this weekend - and probably their last ever session at Surrey Sound Studios. The session started in the early afternoon and was ended about half past six in the early evening. Sting and Nigel Gray get a phone call from A&M offices in London mentioning that a cutting room at The Town House studio was booked for Monday. According to A&M staff that call could not have come on a Saturday or Sunday.
Several master tapes prove that some effort was put into getting decent mixes out of the various takes of Truth Hits Everybody and the second instrumental. Nothing was ever officially released.
