Trivia
Of three planned French concerts together with Wayne County & The Electric Chairs The Police only played this one today.
According to Stewart Copeland's diaries the bands had to change hotels today as they were kicked out of the first one...
On that same night Sting supposedly walked through the red light district and had the idea for Roxanne.
As Wayne County's drummer J.J. Johnson remembers, the tour promoter was not pleased with this Paris gig and cancelled the 2nd Paris gig on 1977-10-21 and the one in Lyon on 1977-10-23 (plus some forthcoming Italy gigs).
Information from a Phil Sutcliffe article:
When The Police arrived in Paris they checked into a flea-ridden hotel behind the Gare Saint-Lazare. In the foyer, Sting noticed a poster for a Comédie Française production of Cyrano de Bergerac.... Later Sting passed an alley full of prostitutes, some quite young. In his hotel room at night he combined these impressions to: "Roxanne, you don't have to put on the red light..."
