Sting went to Rod Stewart's estate in Bel Air, CA, USA around 11:30pm. He had bought a big industrial chain before and fastened it to the only gate to the premises - making it impossible for Rod Stewart to enter his own estate after coming back from a gig in Reno that night.
Sting told this story in Q magazine from May 1989. Rod Stewart had previously carved an insult into a table on a plane which Sting used the day after. This was Sting's reply.
(The date is a conclusion of Sting mentioning that Rod Stewart played in Reno and that he himself had three days off in Los Angeles. This is the only date that (almost) fits that description, only that Sting had two days off in Los Angeles with another concert in between.)
