Sting is in Rome to shoot his cameo for The Adventures Of Baron Munchausen. The movie's first scenes were shot a day earlier.
In SPIN magazine there's an article where Sting phones writer Vic Garbarini from Rome (at night) and refers to Jaco Pastorius' recent death. Jaco died in Florida on September 21 around 10:00pm local time which means that for Sting it was already September 22.
The book "Losing The Light" about the Munchausen movie doesn't exactly tell when Sting shot his scenes, but it was definitely within the first days of shooting.
IF it wasn't today, then it was probably 1987-09-23 - Sting had to be in New York for rehearsals by the weekend.
