[[Sting]] mentions that he played with [[Earthrise]] for about a year until Gerry leaves for an engagement in Bristol. [[Sting]] then auditions for the [[Phoenix Jazzmen]] and the [[Newcastle Big Band (band) | Newcastle Big Band]].
 
 
 
In a [[2003]] interview [[Sting]] mentions that he and Gerry had two years together at college. This might indicate that he actually met him in late [[1971]] until he left in late [[1972]] or early [[1973]].
