Trivia
Sting's appearance at the Dutch Sting Association's fan club meeting was organized the day before when the DSA's management visited Sting at his hotel.
His appearance at 1:00pm came as a surprise for about 125 fans present.
Sting and Dominic Miller first performed Lithium Sunset.
Then Ed "Lemon" Citroen came on stage to sing a homage to Sting. Ed then started to play Message In A Bottle and was quickly joined by the whole audience and Sting.
Then fans could ask Sting some questions - here's what Martin Nickel could write down:
- Peterlien: Is there anybody who wants to ask Sting something? No ?? Ask him something !
- Fan: Do you sing "Angel Eyes" tonight ?
- Sting: What ???
- Fan: "Angel Eyes" from "Leaving Las Vegas"
- Sting: No!
- Fan: I read something about "La Belle" as a protest against the nuclear tests
- Sting: ... France, because I love France very much ... french art, food, culture, but I'm not a fan of the nuclear tests.
- Audience: We neither!
- Fan: Sting, with which artist do you want to do a duet
- Sting: Aehm, with Vinnie Colaiuta.
- Audience: Do it !
- Sting: Actually Dominic, Vinnie and I have been developed this modern music aehm ...
- Sting, Dom & Vinnie: aaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhpp
- Sting: It's not finished ... our second ...
- Sting, Dom & Vinnie: aaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhpp
- Peterlien: I buy the album ! OK, anybody else ?
- Fan: Yes, here! My favourite venue in the world is ..... in Glasgow do you want to play there ... you think ...
- Fan : Sting I have a question. Why did you write the song "Let Your Soul Be Your Pilot" or for whom did you write it? It's my song for now.
- Sting: Is it?
- Fan: Yeah!
- Sting: OK, there is someone that is actually specific about, but I don't want to mention who that is, but it's someone who .... aeehh ...
- Fan: It's your wife!
- Sting: No, it's not my wife, it's actually someone who's ending, near the end of his life and aeeh, you know, it means a lot to me and him.
- Fan: I want to thank you for writing this song. Thank You.
- Fan: Sting, I once wrote a devil in your book I hope you didn't find it. It's terrible. ...
- Sting: ...
- Fan: Sting, I want to thank you for writing the song "Englishman in New York". That is the song that I became a very great fan of you.
- Sting: ...
- Fan: Sting, from Barcelona, Spain. Do you have plans to play in Spain, as any song in Spanish
- Fan: I want to ask you something about singing.
Sting: I think so and I've decided never to look in. It's pretty crazy the Internet. Some of it's good some of it is bad. Actually I was online one night in New York, answering. There were over 5000 questions that night. I'm not online every night it's not my thing, I'm playing music.
- Fan: You've got some folk influences on your new album
- Sting: I came from Newcastle ...
- Peterlien: You wanna play two more songs?
- Audience: ooooohhooooohhoooo
- Sting: Hmm, OK.
- Peterlin: Not "Every Breath You Take" !!!
- Audience: "Jeremiah Blues Pt. 1" !!! "Jeremiah Blues Pt. 1" !!!
Sting then performed I Hung My Head before leaving the venue around 1:40pm.
A short time afterwards and only a few streets away from the Bourbon Street Sting was seen shooting parts for his new video You Still Touch Me - driving on a dutch bicycle and driving on a boat through the channels of Amsterdam.
At the Paradiso Sting's band looked like this:
- Sting: Vocals & Bass
- Dominic Miller: Guitar
- Vinnie Colaiuta: Drums
- Kenny Kirkland: Keyboards
