Band history
On page 99 of Broken Music Sting tells us that he met Gerry Richardson at college in the fall of 1972.
But on page 101 Sting recalls a meeting on a wintry Sunday in his first term (which probably was 1971).
Sting mentions that he played with Earthrise for about a year until Gerry leaves for an engagement in Bristol. Sting then auditions for the Phoenix Jazzmen and the Newcastle Big Band.
In a 2003 interview Sting mentions that he and Gerry had two years together at college. This might indicate that he actually met him in late 1971 until he left in late 1972 or early 1973.
