Introduction

Disambiguation is necessary when multiple items requiring articles in the wiki share the same basic title. A perfect example of this with The Police is "Bring on the Night", which can refer to

 1. the song as recorded by the Police
 2. the documentary film about Sting
 3. the song as recorded by Andy Summers
 4. the Sting live album
 5. the song as recorded by Sting, on the Sting live album of the same name

When this is the case, a disambiguation page is necessary in order to avoid confusion and direct users to the appropriate, specific article they are looking for.

Creating disambiguation pages

The way to deal with this issue is to make the article with the shared title a disambiguation page with use of the disambig tag. Inserting the tag into an article will create the following text:

The text inserted below the disambig tag should list all the items which share the common name, with link to their respective articles. The titles of individual articles in a case such as this should provide an appropriate identifier in (parenthesis).

Continuing the example of "Bring on the Night", the code for the article Bring on the Night looks like this:

disambig

Bring on the Night can refer to:
* Bring on the Night, the song as recorded by The Police (1979, Reggatta de Blanc)
* Bring on the Night, the song as recorded live by Sting (1986, Bring on the Night (album))
* Bring on the Night, the song as recorded by Andy Summers (2007, First You Build a Cloud)
* Bring on the Night, the Sting live solo album (1986)
* Bring on the Night, the Sting live solo documentary (1985)

Which will then generate a page that looks like this:

Bring on the Night can refer to:
