John Manly played guitar in The Rockets. In January 1977 Stewart Copeland rehearsed with The Rockets at John's place and performed two concerts with them.

After The Rockets John played in Warsaw Pakt with Andy Colquhoun (as John Walker). In late 1977 Stewart would jam with Warsaw Pakt and also see them in concert at the Red Cow.
