Band history

On page 101 of Broken Music Sting tells us that he met Gerry Richardson at college "one wintry Sunday night" during his first term, so probably around early December 1971 (although only two pages befor he placed that meeting in the fall of 1972).

Sting mentions that he played with Earthrise for about a year until Gerry leaves for an engagement in Bristol. Sting then auditions for the Phoenix Jazzmen and the Newcastle Big Band.

In a 2003 interview Sting mentions that he and Gerry had two years together at college. This might indicate that he actually met him in late 1971 until he left in late 1972 or early 1973.
