About the song
Jeff Seitz: "Only You was recorded at Rock City Sound Studios which happened to be located adjacent to the sound stage where Sting was filming Brimstone and Treacle. During pauses in filming Sting would record demos with the use of a drum machine. On a day off before our preparation to go out on another tour, I was visiting the film set and found Sting in the studio. He asked if I would put some drums on the demos he had recorded, so the studio staff got a bass drum, snare drum, hihat, a crash and a ride cymbal together and I recorded several tracks while listening to the drum machine as a click track.
At the time, I didn't know what his intentions were for the demos although some were used in the film. There are some Police "band tracks" in the film and resulting soundtrack record that were recorded at another studio while on the Ghost In The Machine Tour.
My memory of what I recorded has faded but I remember playing an interesting reggae type rhythm over Children's Crusade. The instrumentation was piano, upright bass and drums without a vocal. That song later appeared with a vocal and rerecorded backing track on The Dream Of The Blue Turtles with Omar Hakim on drums."
